Promoting Literacy West Chester Downtown Rotarians present nearly 1000 books to The Chester County Hospital for distribution to families and children in the Emergency Department and bilingual Prenatal Clinic.

Reading was never so much fun. Writing was never so scrumptious!

Members of the Rotary Club of West Chester Downtown read books at the Parkesburg Mobile Food Pantry on July 27 and hosted "Night of Dreams" reading event on July 29. Highlights included: drawing shapes and writing letters in plates of chocolate syrup, reading and receiving new kids' books by Bruce Larkin, Rotary Clubs Help People and Carol is a Rotarian, and watching Rotarian Randy Evans bring to life the book, Dressing for Work, about a clown preparing for his job.

Kicking Off a Summer of Service and Fun
The Rotary Club of West Chester Downtown began the summer with service projects: reading to immigrant families at a Night of Dreams event, preparing Chester County OIC agency for its offices to be painted, and donating and processing 170 children's books for the West Chester Public Library.

On March 26, 2011, the Rotary Club of West Chester Downtown transformed gently worn dresses and jewelry into something else special—funds for projects that help survivors of trafficking and slavery. Girls who attended the event at Westtown School created fashion statements for proms, picnics and graduation festivities without spending a fortune. They were also making social statements and keeping gently worn clothing out of landfills and helping rescued slaves. Funds will go toward a pavilion-type outdoor shelter for a female survivors' center in India and new furniture for a local program for victims of trafficking.

Spanish-speaking families enjoyed an English literacy event on Aug. 4, 2010, thanks to reading and singing activities led by the Rotary Club of West Chester Downtown (left, Eric Metzker, president) and books donated by children's author Bruce Larkin.
