1. Alyssa Conaway

studies English, minors in French and American studies
Second minor in Professional Education
4 year student, graduates May 8, 2010 with BA in English

Activities:

  • Aid to South Africa Director, Executive Coordinator and Logistical Coordinator of the Committee
  • annual commitment to raise funds to a soup kitchen, health industry, Aids Orphanage
  • has oversight of the entire event which includes leading 13 member student team and collaborating with a 5 member community board which has netted $30,000 over the past 4 yrs. Hopes to exceed that amount this year.
  • A trip sending students from the honors college may go to South Africa, Alyssa is going to go for 11 days to see the fruits of her labor.
  • Ama Kai Delta Cappa, President, designed a series of food drives which benefits the local food cupboard. The food cupboard supplies 25% more food than in past years. Collective total of 7 members have collected 117 food items this semester.
  • Care Center Foundation in West Chester for my Bonner Mericor grant hours which requires 300 hours per year. Completed two terms at Care Center and accepted a position as care counselor and at end of summer was offered a position on the pre-school staff continue to serve there in the afterschool programs and assist children with spelling, reading and writing. Every now and then science and math.
  • Has applied to 6 Ph.D. programs for English, wants to teach late 18th to 20th century American literature.


2. Rachel Yodis

French major with a minor in linguistics and teaching English as a second language
Born and raised in Phoenixville, has 3 brothers.

Activities:

  • Run cross-country and track at Millersville
  • Also works at University as pier health educator which is a program to promote a healthy lifestyle.
  • Volunteer at Water Street Mission in Lancaster, as well as tutor in English in Lancaster.
  • Spent summer at a camp in the Alps and did some backpacking the Lewar Valley.
 

3. Jennifer Connor

Attends Penn State University.
Majoring in Communication and Print Journalism
Was abroad in Florence, Italy for 4 months.
Was a tour guide to American visitors. Did an internship at ________ which is the City Hall of Florence.

Activities:

  • Involved in PSU Rotaract Club
  • Approx. 4 times weekly we go to Oaks Retirement Home
  • Penn State Dance Marathon to benefit children with cancer and International Project for an orphanage in India.
  • Jennifer is a global ambassador, encourages students to study abroad.

4. Kristin Daly-Barnes, the recipient of a $3,500, 2009/10 Bensalem Rotary/Gundaker Undergraduate Scholarship spoke at the weekly Bensalem Rotary meeting on January 5, 2010.

Kristin has a long history of volunteerism that includes working in soup kitchens, tutoring and working on programs such as “Raising the Racquet, Darfur Gala, Best Buddies Program and "WeCan” initiatives. She was maintaining a 3.8 GPA and is a Junior at Ursinus College

  • Raising the Racquet- Organized collecting tennis racquets for underprivileged children
  • Darfur Gala- volunteered with creation and staffing that raised over $1,000 for the creation of wells in Darfur
  • Best Buddies Program- matches people with intellectual disabilities with a student
  • WeCan- Program that involves we care about the nation initiatives

Since attending a Women in Leadership seminar has decided to become involved with government.
Coordinated a formal ball at the Ursinus Museum of Art which raised over $2500 for women at a local shelter and the Democratic Republic of Congo who are suffering because of the war there.

Tutors female inmates at the Correctional Facility to assist them in getting their GED.
Works at a no kill animal rescue near Ursinus.
Tutors underprivileged children at an after school program

Would like to become a patent lawyer after receiving a bachelors degree in psychology and chemistry.
Would like to attend Penn State or University of Pennsylvania to combine chemistry and law.
A deacon at church, doing food banks and help the local members of the community and surrounding areas for the less fortunate during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Also has an Easter breakfast and a member of the vacation Bible school committee.

Kristin Daly Barnes was recently the guest speaker at the Bensalem Rotary Club and shared what receiving a scholarship from our club meant to her and her family. Kristin was the 2009 recipient of the Bensalem
