Rotary International Scholarship Opportunities via Rotary District 7450

  • Ambassador Scholarships which have been used for the senior year of undergraduate school or for graduate studies have been phased out by Rotary International effective at the end of this year. Our final Rotary 7450 scholar (Lindsey Elkin) began her graduate study in South Africa in February 2013 and is reportedly having a “fabulous experience” academically and culturally.

  • Peace Fellowships reflect a Rotary priority of building peace, preventing violence and building skills of mediation and compromise. One type of Peace Fellowship is a fully paid two year master's degree at one of five university centers overseas. The other is a totally subsidized three month certificate program in Bangkok. Both of these opportunities require a bachelor’s degree at minimum and are for person's already out in the world, i.e., at least three years of work experience required for the master's degree program. And five years minimum work experience for the three month certificate program. We currently have three nominees for these Rotary International Peace Fellowships…winners will be announced in November of 2013. Advertising for the next Peace Fellowships for study in 2015-2016 will begin in the late fall of 2013 and conclude in the spring of 2014 with interviews by the District 7450 scholarship committee in May of 2014. All applications must be downloaded from the Rotary International website at: www.rotary.org

  • Rotary District 7450’s Global Grant Scholarship nominee (Amanda Rahi) for study in 2013-2014 was awarded $30,000.00 for graduate study at the University of Peace in Costa Rica. Amanda has begun her master’s degree study in Economic and Community Development in August (2013). NB---Recipients must have a very specific proposal to improve our world in one of Rotary’s six Future Vision areas. The next Global Grant Scholarship opportunity has not yet been approved by Rotary District 7450 and would be for study in 2014-15; IF APPROVED, that application window would open in the fall of 2013.

There are much smaller amount Gundaker Scholarships available through Rotary District 7450 (the 51 Rotary Clubs in Greater Philadelphia). Info is at: www.rotary7450.org using the Gundaker link. Deadlines and application information are on that website.
