Learn how a Goat Dairy Can Help a Hospital Save Lives
This past summer 2 veterinary students, Brianna Parsons and Corey Spies, from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, spent eight weeks in The Gambia, West Africa conducting research to determine the feasibility and sustainability of developing a goat dairy. If feasible, the project would expand both nutrition and healthcare to this impoverished area. Funding came from Rotary grants (Paoli-Malvern-Berwyn Rotary Club, Gundaker Foundation and International District 7450), a Penn Abroad Global Grant and two Food Animal Fellowships from Penn Vet. Erik Friend sent the message below. Erik is director of ALEM in Mexico.

Several of our clubs have been sponsoring this project for quite sometime now. Sometimes we aren't aware of the impact those donations make. The story below is a heart warming one. There are simple things and, in this case a few words, that just bring me back to earth. Irene, a young woman en ALEM that is in a wheelchair and paralyzed from the chest down because she was accidently shot by the police 11 years ago wrote this on her Facebook page Click here

From Rick Trivane:
Gary Hendler, my friend in the white shirt, posted this photo on Facebook ... and I thought you would enjoy seeing Tom Lamaine. Here's what Gary had to say about the photo:

"We had a fabulous Philadelphia Record and Radio alumni luncheon today. Many of the record producers and disc jockeys were there. Next to me is Tom Lamaine along with Carol of the group the Tams later to become the Hippies with their top 10 hit "Memory Lane"

Gigi Tevlin-Moffat from the NarberthCommunityFoodBank.org is thanked by Rick Trivane, president of the Rotary Club of Bala Cynwyd-Narberth (Est. 1926) for being the guest speaker on August 17, 2016. Gigi's enthusiastic and informative presentation on how the food bank is operated by a core of dedicated local volunteers who value every member of our community. They provide 300 pounds of produce, personal hygiene items, canned goods, and other nonperishables to 75 families a week.
They also deliver some of the food to shut-ins and help clientele who cannot manage rent, mortgages, taxes, utilities, medications, and food expenses. Many thanks go to their long time donors: Whole Foods, Giant Markets, Petco, Spots, The Greek's restaurant, McShea's restaurant, Genardi's Family Foundation, Mellon bank, and Enterprise Rental Car. How can you help? Make a donation at the web link above. You can always talk to Gigi about volunteering or any other concept at 215-629-3646. Photo by Rotarian George Hatzfeld
