|ShelterBox USA announced Bill Decker as the new Chair of
the Board of Directors at the close of its fiscal year June 30, where ShelterBox
USA experienced a 1,000 percent increase in contributions.
The significant growth of the 10 million dollar organization has helped attract successful businessman, Bill Decker, president of The Hub, a corporate meetings and events company in Philadelphia. Decker will lead the organization to increase visibility of ShelterBox USA and their ability to serve more families affected by disasters worldwide.
“Nonprofits today need to act more like businesses and see the opportunities for growth. Our vision of the organization is to shelter 500,000 people per year. Right now ShelterBox is halfway there, and I am confident that we now have the staff and leadership to reach our goal” said Decker.
Bill Decker, is a highly trained ShelterBox Response Team (SRT) member for the past 3 years, he deployed to Haiti in 2010 and the Philippines in 2009 in response to natural disasters that left tens of thousands homeless. As President and COO of The Hub, state of the art corporate meeting and event centers in Philadelphia, Decker is also President of the Rotary Club of Philadelphia and has served on the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce Third Century Initiative’s Board of Directors.
“The impact of donations has put us in a strong position to significantly increase the number of people we can help” said Veronica Brandon Miller, executive director of ShelterBox USA.
| “ShelterBox ensures donors that their
philanthropic investment will be well managed and produce the promised result;
ShelterBox has 10 years of successfully doing just that.”
The aftermath of Haiti helped ShelterBox gain major visibility. As news spread, the organization expanded their reach and forged sustainable cause-marketing relationships with major players like Donna Karan’s Urban Zen Foundation, Lumber Liquidators, and others and saw donations soar.
Each ShelterBox supplies an extended family of up to 10 people with a tent and lifesaving equipment to use while they are displaced or homeless. Each box bears its own unique number so you can track your box all the way to its recipient country via the website.
