Literacy Committe: > to download the Member Interest Form

The suggestion for August is to recruit new members to fill vacant literacy classifications. A short list of those classifications would include:

  • The superintendent of schools
  • A principal of the local high school; and assistant principal, a school guidance counselor.
  • The president and deans of the local college and university
  • Retired teachers who now have the time and interest to get involved with a local Rotary club
  • A local librarian
  • The heads of any local not-for-profit agencies which address literacy issues
  • College or university professors who teach and do research in literacy areas.

A major reason for recruiting new members in these classifications is their special "know-how" and positions of influence.

Please encourage all of your district coordinators to ask their clubs to identify and fill a full range of literacy classifications.

P.S. The RILRG Leadership Manual's suggestions for September and October are:

September

  • Rotary Theme: New Generations
  • Suggested theme project -- promote and celebrate reading literacy projects

October

  • Rotary Theme: Vocational Service
  • Suggested theme project -- Promote and
    celebrate vocational literacy projects
( 4-Way Test, character literacy, job shadowing, etc.).
