February 23, 2010 The Rotary Club of Bensalem celebrates Rotary International’s 105th anniversary. At the meeting, Catherine Hackman described the program that she started where she and volunteers collect and distribute needed supplies for injured soldiers at the Walter Reed Medical Center. Bensalem Rotarias were so touched by her volunteerism and commitment to helping others that they, (anonymously) gave her a $700.00 scholarship to assist her in continuing her education toward a BSN!

A Bensalem member emailed, "It is midnight and I am in my office at home and just watched this video with my wife. I am in tears watching the reaction of these people and how grateful they are for our help. Am I soft, or do I just have a pulse? I am so proud to be a Rotarian .... read the whole story

Rotarians Witness Chaos In Haiti -- By Ryan Hyland - RI News -- 20 January 2010

As president of the Rotary Club of Houston, it had been Michelle Bohreer's dream to travel to Haiti and conduct a service project to improve the lives of children there.
On 12 January, 45 minutes into a weeklong trip to Port-au-Prince to do just that, the dream quickly spiraled into a nightmare.
Bohreer and a team of five Rotarians from Houston were heading into Haiti’s capital city to implement a water project for an orphanage when a powerful earthquake rocked the area, causing widespread devastation.

Former child-slaves gather around a motorbike provided by two Rotary clubs, West Chester Downtown “Fridays” and Norwich-St. Edmunds (England), at Bal Vikas Ashram in India.

“Rajneesh,” who conducts raids and child-slave rescues, as well as keeps operations running smoothly at Bal Vikas Ashram child-slave rehab center, took the first spin on a motorbike provided by Rotarians this month. He traveled to the area of Bhadohi to check on the health of Asmat, a boy who was a slave in the carpet industry, and the financial situation of his family. After Asmat was rescued, he was treated at BVA and returned to his home, but is currently suffering from cardiac problems.

Presidential-Elect Dinner Sparkles!!!!!
The dinner and orientation for the 2010-2011 Rotary President-Elects of Rotary District 7450 on January 11 at The Desmond Hotel and Conference Center provided a great “kick-off” for the training of next year’s Rotary Club leaders.
The evening opened with a delightful vocal presentation from Temple University sophomore music major, Dan Matarazzo, whom The Philadelphia Daily News recently referred to as “a teddy bear with a glorious voice.” Accompanied by Philadelphia teacher Jennifer Crawford, Dan received a standing ovation from the attendees.
