H. Grant
Born December
19,1928 in Akron, Ohio. Lived in Drexel Hill, PA until married in 1950.
Attended University of Pennsylvania graduated 1950 Bachelor of Science
in Civil engineering and a Masters Degree in 1953 from Penn. Married in
1950 and have four children - three boys and a girl and 10 grandchildren.
Wife Marilyn deceased 1995. Worked for G & H Steel Service Inc. from
1950 until retiring 1994. I was treasurer, Vice-president and President,
the latter for twenty years. The company erected reinforcing steel as well
as structural steel in heavy construction such as bridges, dams and large
office buildings.

Worked
on structures in 48 states. Still consult on various projects. Served as
president of the National Association of Reinforcing Steel Erectors for
4 years in the 1980's based in Washington, DC.
In
the community I was on the school board of the Marple Newtown District
from 1972 until 1985 and was president of the board for 10 years. President
of the Newtown Square Historical Society' 1998 and 1999, currently Director
of their Museum as well as chairman of the 1895 Freight Station Museum
Restoration Committee. Have written several articles on the various mills
on Darby Creek in Newtown Township. Have been a member of the Wayne Methodist
Church for forty five years serving on almost every board in the Church
most recently as a Trustee. Also served on the Parks and Recreation Committee
of Newtown Township for two years.
Joined
Newtown Square Rotary in 1972 and was President of the club in 1977-78.
Has
served on various committees within the club during this time. Currently
I am the District Chairman of the Group Study Exchange Committee for the
last two years and have been on the committee for five years. I have been
a GSE Team leader twice , once to the Philippine Islands in 1977 and again
to Brazil in 1999. I have been a member of the Rotary Foundation Committee
for the past three years. My classification was Steel Construction but
I am Senior Active status now.
My
interests are many. I am a map and book collector covering the period from
the 1600' the present mainly of the United States, I am a bookbinder and
do restoration work on old documents. I also like to travel and have done
so extensively. I enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking and camping.
I was a Boy Scout Leader when my sons were in the Boy Scouts.
