On December 21st, the
Rotary Club of Shady Brook continued it's recognition
of Maple Point Middle School scholars at their once
a month dinner. This month the accolades go to Kyle
O'Connell, a 13 year old, 8th grader who's a straight
"A" student recently inducted into the National
Junior Honor Society. Kyle's been an avid soccer player
since he was 6 years old and was recently selected
for a tournament team.
Kyle volunteers at a senior center, serving meals
to the clients and helps with arts, crafts and games
and chats with war veterans about their experiences.
He also participated in the Spirit of Giving Campaign
for the holiday season which helped shelters and the
Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Kyle enjoys traveling with his family and plans to
attend Neshaminy High School and hopefully Princeton
University afterwards, majoring in Biology. |
He loves animals and
hopes to one day discover cures for different animal
diseases. Kyle is truly worthy of this award and hopefully
a future Rotary member. We all need more future leaders
like Kyle. Congratulations Kyle.

the Rotary Club of Shady Brook and awarded Bob Morris
with a Governor's Citation for 30 years of outstanding
service.
Bob was President
of the Northeast Philadelphia club in 1984-85 while
serving on the Philadelphia Police Department and
retiring at the rank of Inspector in 1988. He also
served as Chief of Police at the United States Mint
in Philadelphia from 1988 to 2004. After moving
to Langhorne, he was the Charter President of the
newly formed Shady Brook Rotary in 2006. The club
has had continued success with the subsequent presidents,
board members and members, all helping to make our
community, country and the world a better, safer
and more helpful society.

Shady
Brook Hits a Home Run for First Fund Raiser
The Shady Brook Rotary Club held it's
first fund raiser on Monday, June 25, 2007, a golf outing at the Northampton
Valley Country Club in Richboro, Pa. The outing was a huge success, raising
over $10,000.00 for the club's charities that included the Susan G. Komen
Breast Cancer Foundation. This foundation was chosen because the community
of Shady Brook is a 55+ community and breast cancer has hit the community
hard, effecting several families. All golfers, dinner guests and volunteers
had a great time and everyone received a prize. The winners of the tournament
and the 50/50 prizes did exceptionally well. |
The
Shady Brook club can't rest on it's laurels because we still have a lot
to do with a fund raiser to the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y. on September
8 and 9, 2007. We filled one bus and are taking names for a second bus.
We must get the second bus three quarters full or we'll only go with one
bus. For more information call Maurice Sokol at 215-860-0886.
Rotarily Yours,
Bob Morris
President of Shady Brook Rotary
Club
