Nottingham Fellowship Exchange
Club members present at the April 2 meeting agreed to renew the Fellowship Exchange with our sister club, the Rotary Club of Nottingham England. Joan Batory explained that the relationship between the two clubs began at the first International Rotary Convention held at Edinburgh, Scotland in 1921. Lynmar Brock added that the relationship was based on the fact that the two cities, Philadelphia and Nottingham, were textile manufacturing centers at the time and had much in common. He recounted stories about past Fellowship Exchanges between our two clubs.
The Philadelphia Club contributed money to the Nottingham Club in 1942 to help move children from the cities to the countryside to save them from perishing during the Blitzkrieg and the subsequent horrific Battle of Britain when bombs rained upon England and spectacular aerial combat filled the skies.

The plan is to set up a meeting among the members of the two club who will be attending the Birmingham International Convention this June and then to explore the possibility of resurrecting the Fellowship Exchange that the clubs enjoyed years ago. This would mean that Nottingham Rotarians and Philadelphian Rotarians would exchange home visits to further cement our relationship.
Kirsty Halliday secured the name and email address of the Nottingham Club secretary through one of her contacts abroad and we will now make contact with the Secretary to initiate the dialogue between our two clubs.
