Glenside Rotary Membership Drive
A membership drive is underway to educate local business about Rotary. The Membership Committee feels that if more Business and Professional people know about Rotary, they will want to join and participate in the many local and international projects that the Glenside Rotary participates in. Perhaps these new members will have some pet projects in mind, that they could propose to the club.
Invitations are going out to 1,600 local Businesses, but that is only the tip of the iceberg, as there are many professional people that will not be on this bulk mail list. If you are a business or professional person you are invited to come learn more about Rotary. You may also be interested in one of the topics of upcoming meetings:
September 18, 2009: Andrew Kleeman of EOS Energy Solutions will address the NEW PA Solar Tax Rebates and the Federal Tax Credits for personal residences (and businesses) at the Glenside Rotary’s luncheon for business and professional people, from 12:15 to 1:30 on Friday Sept 18, 2009, at Lulu Country Club. The PA rebate was funded in May, allowing personal residences and businesses to qualify for of up to 65% of the cost of a Solar system, when combined with the Federal Tax Credit. Between the two, PA residents can lower their utility bills and may pay only 35% of the cost. October 16, 2009: Master Gardner, Peggy Rastiello, will talk about “Putting the Garden to Bed, So You have a Bountiful Garden for Spring”. Fall is the best time to adjust soil conditions. Adjusting soil PH, adding composted leaves and other amendments NOW, will mean that your garden is ready to be planted next spring. Soil Test Kits will be available for purchase ($15), (analysis to be performed by Penn State). November 13, 2009: Burt Ritchie of State Farm Insurance Company will talk on “Providing Insurance for Home Offices”. Most people do not realize that their home owner’s insurance may not provide adequate coverage for your home office, or may exclude home offices. The Glenside Rotary is a community service organization composed of business and professional people whose support benefit many activities in the Glenside area, including honoring Students of the Month, sponsoring Abington’s Cross Country Track Meet, and numerous local service projects. The Glenside Chapter also sponsors International student exchange programs, International exchange programs for business and professional people, and International projects such as eradicating Polio, and providing water filtration systems to third world countries. If you would like to attend one of these meetings, please RSVP to:

The Flamingos have arrived. The flocks have been spotted on numerous lawns in the greater Glenside area, creating much amusement and conversation. Proceeds from this event benefit Rotary projects such as Keswick Village circle maintenance, Abington High School Rotary Cross Country Invitational and Rotary Special Athletes. The public can participate in the migration of the Flamingos by contacting Donna Adelsberger at 215- 576-8690 or Barbara Nye 267-266-7657. $20.00 to remove the flamingos, from your lawn, an additional $10.00 if you want them to visit someone else and $10 for insurance if you do not want them to come back to visit you.
In September several members of the Rotary Club of Glenside participated in a local Habitat for Humanity program. The homes being built are located in North Hills, Pa and the program was coordinated by a local church in North Hills. Club members donated their time for 2 Saturdays to help with the building of these 2 new homes. The local recipients were able to move into their new homes just in time to enjoy the Christmas holidays. Pictured are Rotarians Donna Adelsberger, Charlie Breinig, Pat DeMay and her husband Joe Kilian and Charlie Church. 11 September 2010 Ladies and Gentlemen; today we gather to celebrate sport. Glenside Rotary’s twenty second annual Abington Cross Country invitational. The young men & women competing here today represent our hope and aspirations for tomorrow. A few of these competitors will become captains of industry, some will serve their country in the armed forces and some will be our police and firefighters. All are noble professions. But on this date, September11, none are more noble or worthy than our First Responders. I would like to acknowledge the efforts and sacrifices of OUR best: Abington Fire Company, Weldon Fire Company, Edge Hill Fire Company, Roslyn Fire Company and McKinley Fire Company. Nine years ago today, “four deliberate and deadly attacks were carried out against our nation” by religious zealots. This was a heinous attempt to demoralize our citizens and destroy our way of life. Let it be said that they’ve accomplished neither. Martin Luther King said that Americans are defined by the content of their character, not the color of their skin. On this day of remembrance we celebrate the lives of Americans of all races, creeds and colors who gave their lives as innocent victims or those who sacrificed themselves in service to others. This is America! “These are the men and women who began their day at a desk or in an airport, busy with life.” This is America! “They are the people who faced death and in their last moments called home to say, be brave and I love you.” This is America! “These are the passengers who defied their murderers and prevented the murder of others on the ground.” This is America! “These are the men and women who wore the uniform of the United States and died at their posts.” This is America! “These are the rescuers -- the ones whom death found running up the stairs and into the fires to help others.” “The world God created is of moral design. Grief and tragedy and hatred are only for a time. Goodness, remembrance and love have no end, and the Lord of life holds all who die and all who mourn.” “It is said that adversity introduces us to ourselves. This is true of a nation as well. In this trial, we have been reminded and the world has seen that our fellow Americans are generous and kind, resourceful and brave. We have seen our national character in rescuers working past exhaustion, in long lines of blood donors, in thousands of citizens who have asked to work and serve in any way possible.” This is America! As Edmund Burke noted, "For evil to flourish, all that is needed is for good people to do nothing." So, contrary to the prevailing political winds, on this day I would like to reaffirm my love for the United States of America and my commitment to her security. My life …….for Freedom! Please join me in a moment of silent remembrance……………. God Bless you, may God Bless those who serve and may God continue to bless the United States of America! Thank You. There are no citations since I didn’t think anyone would want to report on this speech)
