The Group
Study
Exchange
(GSE)
program of The Rotary Foundation is a unique cultural
and vocational exchange opportunity for young business
and professional men and women between the ages
of 25 and 40 and in the early years of their professional
lives. The program provides travel grants for teams
to exchange visits between paired areas in different
countries. For four to six weeks, team members experience
the host country's institutions and ways of life,
observe their own vocations as practiced abroad,
develop personal and professional relationships,
and exchange ideas.

2009-10
GSE Trip To Greece A Big Success
GSE
Team Leader Lisa Leonard here, happy to report that
our month in Greece went very well! Neither volcano
nor economic crisis prevented us from having a wonderful
experience with Rotarians in District 2470.
Travelling across
the southern part of the country via plane, ferry,
bus and car, we had the opportunity to see a varied
landscape and breathtaking views of bright blue sea
water.
Our hosts showed us historic sites like the Acropolis
and Knossos Palace. We saw olive groves and visited
a winery. Our vocational visits took us to courthouses,
radio stations, yoga studios, schools, non-profit
organizations, and the office of a high-ranking government
official. |

GSE Team preparing for trip to Greece in April
Lauren, Phil,
Sarah, Stacy, and I have been excited since the day we
all found out we were chosen to be part of this year’s
Group Study Exchange.But now, we’re even more excited
thanks to a couple of recent experiences!
A full-day GSE training near Boston
gave us practical information and advice on how to make
the most of our month in Greece. The workshops got the
team more familiar with Rotary’s role in the world,
GSE’s role in Rotary, and our team’s role
in GSE.It was a long road trip in a minivan but served
as a great opportunity for us to get to know each other
better and share some laughs.We are grateful to DG Al
and GSE coordinator Kerry for arranging for us to be part
of this worthwhile training.
We’ve
been together every Wednesday night learning about Greek
language and culture from Rotarian Dee Karras. She is a
wonderful teacher who is helping us learn a difficult language.
To give you a quick look at how
different Greek is from the language we’re used to:
the Greek letter that looks like a V sounds like an English
N. The Greek P is pronounced like an English R. And the
Greek character that looks like a U, is actually spoken
like an M. We’re up to the challenge and look forward
to Dee’s continued encouragement.
Soon our team will be ordering uniforms
and business cards and preparing a presentation that we
will give to Rotary Clubs throughout our host District.
April will be here before we know it.The excitement continues

The Greater
West Chester Sunrise Rotary (GWCSR) Group hosted
the Philippines Team from April 11 19, 2009. The Group
Study Exchange (GSE) program of The Rotary Foundation is
a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for
young business and professional men and women. The program
provides travel grants for teams to exchange visits between
paired areas in different countries. For four weeks, team
members experience the host countrys institutions and ways
of life, observe their own vocations as practiced abroad,
develop personal and professional relationships, and exchange
ideas. |

The Group Study Exchange
(GSE) program of The Rotary Foundation is a unique cultural
and vocational exchange opportunity for young adults. Through
the program, teams of professional men and women exchange
visits between paired areas in different countries. The awards
involve four-week visits, during which team members share
homes with Rotary families, experience the host country's
institutions and ways of life, observe their own vocations
as practiced abroad, develop personal and professional relationships,
and exchange ideas with their professional counterparts. They
also give presentations to Rotary clubs and other groups about
their sponsor district and home country. I
am pleased to announce that District 7450 is participating
in a Group Study Exchange with District
3830 of the Philippines.
The district is located
approximately 10 miles southeast of Manila. Link

Last
Rotary year, our district exchanged teams with District
2100 in Naples, Italy. District 2100 includes Campania,
Calabria, and Territorio di Lauria. It has 73 Rotary
Clubs, with a membership of 3,915 Rotarians.
